Jakarta is surprisingly cosmopolitan. However, many expats don’t see this side or choose to explore it. Often they go to the same bars and hang-out with the same people they would back home. I would never accuse my fellow expat rockstars of doing this though, as I know they are always wiling to sample new things and try new experiences.
For those who want something different on their nights out in Jakarta, then I suggest you try the Arab nightclubs – Delilah and Tiga Kuda.
Delilah on Gatot Subroto is a huge club situated near the Planet Hollywood restaurant and consists of two floors, pool tables, a big dance floor and a stage. The music, as you’d expect, is mainly middle eastern dance tunes with the live band playing Arabic music. This in itself is a cultural experience as you watch how the men and women shake their thing to the music.
However, I suspect that most frequenters of this site are not going to bars for the music and ambience alone. When an expat rockstar has a night out, women are usually an essential part of the evening’s entertainment.
These clubs are like the Arabic version of BATS or CJ’s but with cheaper drinks. The place is full (or at least it was when I went) of girls. But be pre-warned, the girls are little darker and chunkier than what you might be used to, as this apparently is what my Arab brothers prefer. However, I have always been partial o dark skinned girls with big butts so for me it wasn’t a problem. Many of the girls here are also famed for allowing “access to all areas” if you get my meaning. Provided you are there to have a good time and don’t hit on anyone’s girl you will have a great night here and will definitely get the attention of the ladies.
Tiga Kuda (Three Horses), in Hotel Menteng, on Jalan Cikini Raya, is a similar set-up. The only difference is that there are often more women here than in Delilah who are looking for a good time. However, one thing to remember in these clubs is that nearly all the women are of the professional variety. These are not necessarily the places to come if you are looking for a girlfriend, unless it’s just a girlfriend for one night and one you have to give “taxi money” to in the morning.
So, if you want a change of scene and are looking for dark skinned girls with the big asses then check out the Arabic clubs and enjoy all what Jakarta has to offer.

Mr. John, the next time I come through Jakarta we have got to hit some of these joints. From what Mr. Grey tells me you have a pretty good lay of the land in Jakarta so its absolutely imperative we meet. Drinks on me.
